The Green That Feels Alive

Emeralds are a variety of beryl, colored by trace amount of chromium or vanadium - the deeper green, the more of those elements are inside. They are one of the most prized colored gemstones, known for their rich, velvety color that seems to glow from within.
They are softer than diamonds (7.5-8 on the Mohs scale), and most have natural inclusions - called "jardin" (French for "garden") - which aren't flaws, but proof they're real.
Colombia is famous for the finest emeralds, but they are also found in Zambia and Brazil. They are the May Birthstone, and have been worn for centuries as symbols of renewal, balance, and quiet power. 
Styling tip: they shine in gold settings, especially with diamond accents - but they also look stunning on their own, letting that green do the talking.
