Ruby: The Red That Rules

Rubies are a variety of corundum - the same mineral as sapphires - but colored red by traces of chromium. The deeper and more vivid the red, the more valuable the stone. Some even have rare "pigeon's blood" glow - a rich, slightly purplish red that's highly prized.
They are one of the hardest gemstones (9 on the Mohs scale), second only to diamond, so they are perfect for everyday wear.
